Synopsis: Dishwasher
For 12 years, I was the most prolific dishlicker of them all. From 1989 - 2001, I dished my way around the country, unwittingly searching for direction. From a bagel joint in New Mexico to a Mexican joint in Brooklyn, from a diner in Rhode island to Lawrence Welk Resort in Branson, Missouri, and from upper-crust ladies club to crusty hippy commune - i washed the nations dishes - Pete Jordan................. Dishwasher is the true story of a man on a mission: to clean dirty dishes professionally in every state of America. Part adventure, part parody, and part miraculous journey of self-discovery, it is the unforgettable account of Pete jordan's transformation from itinerant seeker into "Dishwasher Pete" - unlikely folk hero, writer, publisher of his own cult zine, and the ultimate professional dish dog- and how he gave it all up for love.

Not a bad read, the writing isn't spectacular but it does the job. we follow pete on his adventures from state to state, but i wonder why it took him so long, the book doesn't convey the sense of time in which his dedication to dishwashing took place, the book skips around as he switches jobs, it's less of a quest, with a set plan, more a lifestyle that become a quest, so don't expect a race to the finish line and a systematic checking off of all 51 posts, the book does tend to fade ad it drags on, and does delve into a bit of elongated dishwashing history which could have been left as an extra. Either way, it is an entertaining read if some what inconsistent.
